National Cardiovascular Research Network (NCRN)

The National Cardiovascular Research Network (NCRN) supports academics, clinicians and other stakeholders from across Wales to build further critical mass in three priority areas:

  1. stratified approaches for tackling arrhythmias
  2. translational vascular physiology
  3. cardiovascular healthcare outcomes/data science

In partnership with the British Heart Foundation, the Network will provide a framework for Wales’ researchers to address, using interdisciplinary approaches, key research questions in understanding and treating cardiovascular disease. The activities of the Network are focused on the involvement of the public and research for the benefit of the population. It will:

  • develop the ethos of ‘patients in society’
  • exploit the gaps between evidence and best practice for direct translational impact
  • take full advantage of Wales’ patient demographic to inform studies on the causal pathways of cardiovascular disease

The NCRN will create a focused translational infrastructure to enable delivery of clinical trials, pathways and/or policy to introduce the learnings from mechanism-oriented, vascular and data science research activities effectively and appropriately into the clinical and public health domains.
