Help shape research aimed at preventing urine infections after sexual activity.
Help researchers understand whether alternatives to antibiotics can prevent frequent urine infections after sexual activity.
Urine infections are very common in women. Some women get recurring urine infections triggered by sexual activity. This can significantly affect their daily lives and relationships.
Currently, most women who have urine infections triggered by sex are given advice about hygiene or urinating after sex, to try and prevent infections. Some women may be prescribed a single dose of antibiotics to use right after sex, or long-term antibiotics to use daily, to try and prevent infection.
However, there is growing concern that some infections are becoming resistant to antibiotics, meaning the medicines are no longer effective. Because of this, it is important to find alternative ways to prevent infections and reduce the risk of antibiotics losing their effectiveness. In this research, we will assess how effective three different non-antibiotic medications are at preventing urine infections triggered by sexual activity.
