The Support & Delivery Centre is part of Health and Care Research Wales, funded by the Division for R&D within Welsh Government and it works in support of Welsh Government’s mission to promote, support and provide collective oversight of health and social care research in Wales.

The ‘One Wales’ Support and Delivery Service is a Wales-wide service which aims to provide seamless support to sponsors, researchers and the public. The service is delivered at a national level via the Support & Delivery Centre and national Specialty Leads, and at a local level via NHS research and development (R&D) departments.

The Support & Delivery Centre’s role is to facilitate the implementation of Welsh Government policies by providing centralised support functions and services for the health and social care research community in Wales, specifically, it provides ‘once for Wales’ support such as:

  • Coordinating study set-up
  • Coordinating the all- Wales contracts and costings service
  • Implementing R&D funding policies and performance monitoring NHS R&D
  • Managing the comprehensive Research Directory
  • Providing regulatory approvals as part of the UK Approvals Service
  • Coordinating initiatives to increase commercial, primary and social care research
  • Providing a communications, engagement and involvement service
  • Providing training and information services

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Approvals team, to perform the role of REC Member Support and Development Manager.

The REC Member Support and Development Managers in Health and Care Research Wales and Health Research authority work together to ensure a consistent, high quality service.

They form an integral line of leadership that both supports the operational running of the REC delivering HRA and Health and Care Research Wales review and also takes an active part in supporting Ethics Committees, and the development of working practices.

The post holder will support the Approval Operations Manager (Health and Care Research Wales) and the Head of Approvals Support (Health Research Authority) in active management of REC membership recruitment, the planning, co-design and delivery of specialised training to REC members and coordinate the members’ self-directed learning – and will have a significant contribution to the design and promotion of REC procedural guidance complementary to staff work instructions for the delivery of HRA & HCRW Approval.

This management role will require collaborative working with a range of stakeholders internal and external, with the HRA counterparts, Ethics Committee members, and staff from Approval Operations, primarily the Approvals Managers.

The post-holder to work under their own initiative under general oversight and direction from the Approval Operations Manager in Health and Care Research Wales, and display a high level of tact, diplomacy and emotional intelligence.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
