Living in a care home in Wales? Welsh speaking?

Research into the experiences of older Welsh speakers living in care

The Hiraeth project is looking for Welsh speakers, living in care homes in Wales, to take part in research into how language and culture affect their daily lives

The research will look at issues including:

  • How important is the ability to speak Welsh with carers, friends and visitors?
  • How does it feel if opportunities to speak Welsh are limited?
  • What was it like to be a Welsh speaker in a care home during the COVID-19 Pandemic?

The research is part of Angharad Higgins' PhD at Swansea University.

Angharad would like to understand people's experiences and then develop guidelines for use in the care home sector.
