
Professor Monica Busse

Monica Busse is an allied health professional academic specialising in the development and evaluation of complex physical and psychosocial interventions for chronic health conditions. Her research focuses on the interplay between physical, behavioural, and mental health factors, with particular emphasis on translating effective health interventions into policy and practice to promote lifelong brain health and improve access to health services for underserved groups.
She has a proven track record of securing over £30 million in research funding and over 20 years' experience in developing and evaluating complex healthcare interventions using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches. Her research contributions include over 120 peer-reviewed journal articles, accessible through her ORCID profile (0000-0002-5331-5909). She has extensive experience with research funding bodies as a reviewer, panel member, and funder representative, consistently prioritising public and patient involvement in all her work.
Her educational background includes undergraduate studies in Physiotherapy, followed by postgraduate qualifications in Ergonomics, Clinical Engineering and Biomechanics. Her PhD research explored community mobility in people with neurological conditions. She holds a Diploma in Clinical Trials from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and has completed additional training in statistical and qualitative methods, intervention mapping, and implementation science. She is also an EMCC accredited Level 7 Executive Coach and Action Learning Set Facilitator.
