Health and Care Research Wales Faculty
We want to support the talented people working in health and social care research in Wales and attract and develop the next generation of researchers.
The Health and Care Research Wales Faculty was established in Summer 2022 and will be a community for Health and Care Research Wales award holders where they can access support and development opportunities in progressing their research careers. The Faculty will facilitate the provision of a bespoke training programme and mentorship opportunities for its members and also run the Health and Care Research Wales personal awards.
The Faculty’s Director is Professor Monica Busse, who is also a Health and Care Research Wales Senior Research Leader. Professor Busse will provide strategic direction for the development of the Health and Care Research Wales Faculty and supported by an administration team in the Support & Delivery Centre, lead the development and implementation of a broad programme of work specifically aimed at enhancing the research career pathway in health and social care in Wales.
What will the Faculty do?
The Faculty administration team will support the implementation of a number of national workstreams which will:
- bring together the development and coordination of training and career development for people working in the health and social care community in Wales
- play a pivotal role in attracting, training and supporting the best health and care researchers so we can develop a highly-skilled academic research workforce
- support the implementation of the recommendations from the review of research career pathways in Wales
How will the Faculty help researchers?
The Faculty has been established to make sure health and social care researchers have the right training and support to develop their careers.
It has been set up as a result of one of the recommendations in a recent report, Making research careers work: a review of career pathways in health and social care in Wales, which reviewed the current research training and development opportunities available in Wales.
The report highlighted the enablers and barriers and identified recommendations to improve the support and encourage more health and social care professionals to embark on research careers.
