Biography

Dr Ashrafunnessa Khanom is a Health Services Researcher and joined Swansea University in 2006. Prior to joining she worked as a primary school teacher and Community Development Officer. Her PhD in interventions for childhood obesity enabled her to develop a strong research profile across three areas: health and wellbeing of children; the delivery of urgent and emergency care; and equity of access to health care, particularly in relation to ethnicity, and the needs of asylum seekers and refugees.

Ashra's work has involved working with community peer researchers to undertake research with underrepresented groups and she has won numerous awards. Her research efforts have involved building new and highly productive research partnerships with NHS organisations and third sector bodies both in the UK and internationally and more widely in the research community.
