Biography

Tim Pickles has completed his PhD on psychometrics, patient reported outcome measures (PROMs), Rasch measurement theory and computer adaptive test in the field of Rheumatoid Arthritis. He was supervised by Professor Ernest Choy (Cardiff University), Dr Mike Horton (University of Leeds), Dr Karl Bang Christensen (University of Copenhagen), Dr Rhiannon Phillips (Cardiff Metropolitan University) and Dr David Gillespie (Cardiff University).

Tim now holds the first Health and Care Research Wales Next Steps Award and is researching a potential monitoring intervention for people living with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

He has previously completed psychometric validation studies in burns and urology. He has been employed as a trial statistician undertaking a multitude of different trials and studies in a range of clinical areas implementing a variety of different statistical techniques. He has had secondments with the School of Dentistry at Cardiff University and also the Cardiff Regional Experimental Arthritis Treatment and Evaluation (CREATE) Centre in the School of Medicine at Cardiff University. He is the past chair of the International Society of Quality of Life Research (ISOQOL) UK & Ireland Special Interest Group.
