Health and Care Research Wales launches new £3m research centre for adult social care
22 May
Health and Care Research Wales is delighted to announce the launch of a brand new £3m research centre for adult social care at Cardiff University, bringing together expertise from across the sector and delivering on a key commitment in our three-year plan.
The Centre for Adult Social Care Research (CARE) will combine expertise within the university and foster collaboration with experts elsewhere in the UK, developing cutting-edge research on adult social care. To ensure its work is relevant to the social care sector, CARE will have an oversight group of senior leaders and policy-makers, and advisory panels of practitioners and people with lived experience of receiving social care services.
The grant to establish CARE was awarded to Cardiff University based on its record of research and impact in the social care field. The Centre is currently advertising for an inaugural Director, with applicants invited to apply via Cardiff University. The University is contributing a further £0.5m of in-kind support. The overall Centre funding will support several new posts.
Professor Kieran Walshe, Director of Health and Care Research Wales, said:
We are excited to announce the launch of the new CARE centre, which is part of our aspiration to increase capacity and capability in health and social care in Wales.
It specifically helps to address a gap in Welsh research capacity in an area of clear need, and delivers on actions set out for social care research in our three year plan. It also builds on recent work undertaken in partnership with Social Care Wales to boost social care research activity.”
