Research in Wales showcased at international convention in Boston

23 June

Health and Care Research Wales was part of a Welsh Government trade mission to the United States last week to showcase Wales as a unique location to deliver a wide range of studies.

The team met with innovators and scientists from all over the world to highlight our offer to the life sciences sector, which includes nationally co-ordinated site identification; a ‘once for Wales’ approach to costing and contracting, and agile research delivery processes.

Our experience in multiple disease areas includes oncology, haematology, diabetes, respiratory, cardiovascular and infectious diseases.

Dr Yvette Ellis, National Head of Research Delivery Operations at Health and Care Research Wales, said: “It was a privilege to be a part of the Welsh Government trade mission to Boston and to collaborate with other organisations like Medi Wales, the All Wales Medical Genomics Service and CatSci to fly the flag for Wales as a destination for innovation and research.

“Our small size was a real bonus and companies were very interested in our unique ‘One Wales’ approach to research delivery, which, as we demonstrated through the pandemic, enables speedier set up and effective collaborative working to overcome challenges.

Our dedicated clinical research facilities across the Welsh NHS and experienced NHS research staff were also very strong selling points which I hope will sow the seeds for future partnerships with industry.”
