Collaboration with Social Care Wales brings second social care research roadshow to Cardiff

Tuesday 13 June saw the second event in a new opportunity for social care professionals across Wales to gather and discuss social care research, this time at City Hall in Cardiff. The social care research roadshow series co-hosted between Health and Care Research Wales and Social Care Wales provides a platform for peer learning, networking and sharing best practice.

The Cardiff event focused on adult social care, with an emphasis on research into social care and support for older people and welcomed a variety of speakers from multiple disciplines and research interests.

Chaired by the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales Hélena Herklots CBE who stressed the crucial role of research in the delivery of high-quality social care for older people in her opening keynote, the event was attended by over 100 delegates who participated in parallel sessions and discussion fora covering diverse themes.

Presenters from Aberystwyth, Bangor, Cardiff and Swansea Universities, the University of South Wales, Kings College London and the Centre for Public Policy discussed themes including Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act, support for unpaid carers, taking care of the whole elder person, including equality, diversity and inclusion and mental health, and the use of technology in adult social care.
