Biography
Shelly Higgins is a consultant midwife in Powys Teaching Health Board and the all-Wales Maternity and Neonatal Network. She has worked as a midwife for 16 years with expertise in community and free-standing midwifery unit settings.
Shelly’s interests include care at home or in midwifery units, transfers in labour between settings and care outside of recommended guidance. Shelly has recently been involved in developing an all-Wales approach to transfers in labour or the early postnatal period from community or midwifery units and this has led to her area of research interest.
Her Emerging Researcher Award will enable pre-Doctoral work to develop her research question further, conduct a literature review, engage with patient and public involvement and key stakeholders, undertake some research training, develop and establish networks and explore data available in relation to transfers.
