Do you or a loved one receive care at home?

Join a research advisory group to help improve care at home for ethnic minority groups.

What experience do I need to help?

  • You or someone you care about receives help at home
  • You are of black ethnicity
  • You are comfortable talking about your experiences and thoughts with others

More information

Caring for others with compassion is important for ensuring safe and personalised services. However, it often falls short for ethnic minority groups because there is a lack of understanding of different cultures. Ideas like compassion, dignity, independence, and choice can mean different things to various ethnic groups.

This study aims to better understand how these groups view compassion, dignity, and independence, so we can improve social care that includes everyone.

What will I be asked to do?

As part of the advisory group, you will be asked to review documents and other materials to make sure everything is clear and suitable for different cultures.

You will also help create a helpful prompt for brainstorming during a part of the study called Group Concept Mapping.

How long will I be needed for?

You will meet with the team for one hour each month, for a total of eight times over a 12-month period.

What are some of the benefits for me?

Benefits to you:

  • having your voice heard and experiences acknowledged, leading to a sense of empowerment in shaping the course of the study.
  • influence compassionate care practices in social care services, which may improve the quality of care they receive.

Our team will:

  • Cover reasonable travel expenses and additional carer or childcare costs,
  • Offer payment for time of £25.00 per hour (people can request less if they are in receipt of state benefits).

Have a look at our guidelines for more information about this.

If you are receiving any benefits, you can access confidential advice from the Benefits Advice Service for Involvement.

 What support is offered?
