What are your memories of cinema and cinemagoing before, during and after the COVID-19 pandemic?
Researchers in Film Studies at Swansea University are looking for people who identify as women over the age of 50 to take part in a short anonymous survey about women’s cinemagoing experiences and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The effects of the pandemic have had significant repercussions for the film industry and its understanding of older women audiences and the kinds of films and film stars that appeal to this demographic. To better understand these repercussions, Dr Lisa Smithstead wants to explore the impact of cinema closures and streaming viewing for women audiences over the age of 50, listening to their experiences of cinemagoing before, during and after the pandemic ‘lockdown’ in the UK.
