Specialty Lead for Reproductive Health and Childbirth

Trudy is the Specialty Lead for Reproductive Health and Childbirth in Wales. She has extensive clinical and research experience in maternity care, having worked as a midwife across Abertawe Bro Morgannwg (now Swansea Bay) and Hywel Dda University Health Boards before transitioning into research in 2014.

From 2014, Trudy worked as a Research Midwife in Swansea Bay and, in 2021, became the first dedicated Research Midwife in Hywel Dda University Health Board. She played a pivotal role in building a maternity research portfolio within a department new to research, successfully engaging new Principal Investigators and expanding research opportunities in reproductive health. Her personal research interest lies in perinatal mental health. Trudy has studied research methods at masters level and held appointment as honorary research fellow in Swansea university until January 2025, she is passionate about increasing access to high-quality studies that improve outcomes for women and families.

More recently, Trudy has taken on a leadership role as Research Team Lead at Prince Philip Hospital, overseeing research across multiple disciplines. With a strong background in research delivery, leadership, and promoting engagement in clinical trials, she is committed to embedding research into everyday practice.

In her role as Specialty Lead, Trudy aims to drive reproductive health and childbirth research across Wales, supporting collaboration between healthcare professionals, researchers, and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of impactful and patient-centred studies.
