Are you a woman of Asian descent who has osteoporosis, or is carer of one and experiencing poor bone health?

You could help researchers develop a project that looks to support Asian women by understanding their experiences of the osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis, also known as brittle bone disease, is a condition that makes bones weak and more likely to break. This is especially important for women as they grow older.  Researchers are looking into how common osteoporosis is among Asian women in Wales. They also want to understand what these women know about the condition and its impact. The goal is to create useful information and education to help prevent and manage osteoporosis in this community.

What experience do I need to help?

The project team would like the views of women from the Asian community with any of the following:

  • lived experience of osteoporosis
  • caring for someone with osteoporosis
  • carer or someone with experience of a fragility fracture due to osteoporosis
What will I be asked to do?

You will be asked to share your views on the project proposal as someone who has experience of living or caring for someone with osteoporosis.

How long will I be needed for?

You will be asked to attend one online meeting lasting up to two hours, you will also be asked to review the application which will take four hours. There is also an opportunity to become a co-applicant on the research project if funding is successful.

What are some of the benefits for me?
  • Be part of influencing research that could directly help women
  • Gain an understanding of the research process
  • Will make sure that the research is relevant to the people that it will affect
What support is offered?
  • You will be supported by a member of the project team, and they will be able to answer any questions you have about the project.
  • Offer payment for time of £25.00 per hour (people can request less if they are in receipt of state benefits).
