Help shape mental health conversations in Wales

Have you used mental health services in Wales? Be a chair of our forthcoming national webinar and help shape how mental health services are discussed and understood.

The Health and Care Research Wales Faculty are looking for someone with lived experience of mental health services to chair an important webinar on 12 June 2025 and help make services more compassionate. The webinar is about opportunities for staff involved in mental health work to undertake research.  It will look at funding available and include two award holders talking about their experiences. The Faculty welcome expressions of interest from individuals of all backgrounds and encourage people with diverse experiences of mental health services in Wales to apply.

What experience do I need to help?
  • Lived experience of mental health services in Wales
  • Comfortable speaking in an online setting
  • Enthusiastic about contributing to compassionate, inclusive conversations about mental health care
What will I be asked to do?

The Chair’s role will include welcoming attendees, introducing speakers, and facilitating the Q&A session. As the Chair, you will be asked to join the webinar 15 minutes prior to the session to allow time for a brief technical check and final preparations. All technical set up will be managed by the organisers. Ideally, the Chair will also be available for a short introductory meeting ahead of 12 June to review the webinar format and confirm arrangements.

How long will I be needed for?

In addition to attending the webinar, there will be two short meetings:

  • A brief introductory meeting in the days leading up to the webinar (around 20 minutes) to explain the format and expectations
  • A technical check-in at 10:45 on the day of the webinar to make sure everything is working and to run through housekeeping
  • No ongoing commitment is required beyond these sessions.
What are some of the benefits for me?

  • Gain experience in chairing a professional webinar
  • Opportunity to shape mental health discussions in Wales using your lived experience
 What support is offered?

  • A pre-meeting will be held to confirm arrangements and early login on the day to check the technology and housekeeping
  • No reimbursement for time will be offered for this opportunity – It is voluntary
