£20 million funding call opens for research into ‘long COVID’
25 November
The National Institute for Health Research and UK Research and Innovation have launched a £20 million joint funding call for research proposals addressing the long-term effects of COVID-19, in people who haven’t been admitted to hospital.
It follows increasing medical evidence, and stories from patients, showing that a small but significant minority of people who get COVID-19 and survive, report chronic symptoms for months after falling ill.
These ongoing problems, commonly known as ‘long COVID’, range from breathlessness, chronic fatigue, ‘brain fog’, anxiety and stress.
Projects are expected to start in January 2021 and may be funded for up to 3 years in the first instance.
Deadline for expressions of interest: 2 December
Call closes: 9 December
