Health and Care Economics Cymru (HCEC)

Health economics is the study of how we use scarce resources to meet our health and social care needs. Health economists support policy makers and commissioners of services in the National Health Service and local authorities to weigh up the costs and benefits of health and social care interventions and programmes. We promote the idea of using resources efficiently, by reducing waste and prioritising effective and safe care that provides good value for money and fair access to health and social care. This is a valuable objective given that there are 18 years of difference in healthy life expectancy between the richest and poorest areas of Wales.

Health and Care Economics Cymru is an integral part of an exciting health and social care research system across Wales. Health and Care Economics Cymru receives funding from the Welsh government through Health and Care Research Wales.
