Apply to join the Research Programme for Social Care funding committees

The National Institute for Health and Care Research's (NIHR) Research Programme for Social Care (RPSC) is looking to appoint social care researchers, academics, practitioners, commissioners and policy-makers from across all four nations of the United Kingdom to join its funding committees. 

The aim of RPSC is to fund research that generates evidence to increase the effectiveness of social care services, provides value for money and benefits people who need or use social care services and carers. This Programme is primarily based on the success of NIHR’s Research for Social Care (RfSC) call within the Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) programme with an annual budget of £10.5 million.

As a member of the funding commitee, you will have to join meetings to assess whether Stage 1 applications should progress to Stage 2 and then attend the Stage 2 meetings to assess which applications will be recommended for funding to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC). 

They are particularly looking for people from the following background and/or areas of expertiset o join the committee:

  • Health and social care economics   
  • Statistical methods
  • Randomised control trials
  • Large data sets and data linkage
  • Evidence synthesis research
  • Children’s and young people’s social care   
  • Social care policy
  • Social care practice (adult and children)
  • Social care management (senior/middle management) (any sector)
  • Social care needs of minoritised communities

Tenure: Three years (with the possibility to extend by a subsequent two years)

Start: April 2025
