Going to the cinema before and after the COVID-19 pandemic
Researchers in Media Studies at Swansea University would like women aged 50 and over to join a focus group to share their experiences of going to the cinema before, during and after the COVID-19 lockdown periods in Wales. The effects of the pandemic have had significant repercussions on the film industry and its understanding of older women audiences and the kinds of films and film stars that appeal to this demographic. To better understand these repercussions, Dr Lisa Smithstead explored the views of women aged 50+ in a survey and is now running focus groups to find out more.
By attending the focus group, you will help researchers understand how the pandemic changed how women aged 50+ experience cinema. Your feedback will be used to develop new strategies for making live cinema venues more accessible for women over 50 in Wales.
The focus group will be held at 10:30 am on 2 April at Taliesin Arts Centre, Swansea.
To find out more and reserve your place on the focus group, please email the research team.
Tea, coffee and cake will be provided and you will receive £20 for your participation.
