menopause care

Help develop a new research project aiming to improve menopause care

Fair Treatment for the Women of Wales is working with researchers at Cardiff University to develop a new research project that aims to improve menopause care.

This project is about understanding how decisions are made when women and people registered female at birth (hereafter women inclusively) stop using hormone replacement therapy (HRT), which is commonly used to manage symptoms of the menopause. Stopping HRT isn’t a one-size-fits-all decision, and the way it’s managed can affect women’s health, wellbeing and trust in the healthcare system. By understanding what’s working well and what could be improved, this project aims to support more personalised, evidence-based care that truly meets the needs of women across Wales.

This project will look at three things:

  1. What’s happening across Wales – for example, how long people stay on HRT, whether this follows current evidence and whether this varies depending on where someone lives or who they are.
  2. How doctors use evidence when talking to women about stopping HRT.
  3. What women’s experiences are like when they have these discussions with their GP and what outcomes matter most to them (through interviews/focus groups).

Share your input on the project via this survey.

Your responses to this survey are anonymous and will be used to develop a grant application to Health and Care Research Wales to fund this project. Please note, if the grant progresses to the next stage, there will be an opportunity for other methods of participation and engagement in the project.
