My experiences Cymru

Young people’s experiences and the support they receive in dealing with different encounters can influence their long-term physical and mental health.

Different forms of childhood trauma, including personal experience of neglect and other types of abuse, are often considered Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). These also include familial factors such as domestic violence, parental separation or alcoholism in the home, which have been found to predict a range of unfavourable mental and physical health outcomes.

The National Centre for Population Health and Wellbeing Research (NCPHWR) team has developed a survey for 16-18-year-olds living in Wales to talk about their experiences. This survey will help to improve understanding of what help and support young people find most beneficial.

The survey asks about difficult occurrences, what helped or could have helped, and other background information. Supporting young people through difficult experiences is crucial to improving public health and social justice; this work can be used to design and inform policies to improve the support currently available for young people in Wales.

My Experiences Cymru is a national survey funded by the National Centre for Population Health and Wellbeing Research (NCPHWR) with generous support from Public Health Wales.

Participants can enter into a prize draw to win a £20 Love2Shop voucher with a winner being drawn every week.
