Take part in a study to help those with Huntington’s disease
A new Health and Care Research Wales-funded study will test a drumming app for people with Huntington’s disease. The aim of the HD-DRUM study, with HD standing for Huntington’s disease, is to find out if there are any changes in mental and movement functions and the brain after the two months of HD-DRUM training and whether the process is enjoyable for people living with Huntington’s disease.
The research team are looking for volunteers to take part in the study. In this study, people with Huntington’s disease will be randomly placed into one of two groups:
- the HD-DRUM group, in which participants will receive a tablet with the drum app and will be asked to the app at home for 10 minutes on five days per week for two months, or
- the control group, in which you will simply continue your normal activities for two months.
Participants will listen to audio recordings of musician Jimi who explains how to drum along on two virtual drums on a tablet. This is done first without and then with background music. As people progress through the program these patterns get gradually longer and faster.
If you are interested in taking part and would like more information, please email the team.
