Working class people during industrial revolution drawing.

Disability and the ageing body in the industrial evolution

What constituted old age in the past? What was the relationship between disability and old age, and how did people live with impairments before the advent of modern systems of health and social care?

This webinar by Professor David Turner from Swansea University's History Department and the Centre for Innovative Ageing will present a paper that blends textual, cultural and material evidence to examine images and experiences of working class ageing and impairment during Britain’s industrial expansion of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
