Taking the next step in your research career: A focus on fellowships

Are you wanting to progress your health or social care research career through a personal fellowship application?

We know how hard it can be to keep research activity going amongst other working pressures and for many, taking the next step will involve a successful personal fellowship application.

This fellowship development workshop is an opportunity for researchers, clinicians and practitioners working in any health or social care sector in Wales who:

  • Have a research idea for development and some research experience such as a PhD, MRes or experience of working on a funded research project for at least 1 year (this doesn’t have to be particularly recent)
  • Are interested in applying for a personal fellowship to a UK funder in the next 6 - 12 months.

We have up to 30 funded places (with a travel and accommodation bursary available for those needing to travel significant distances to attend) for a one day fellowship workshop. You will work with a group of experienced researchers and current fellowship award holders to develop your fellowship application. Using a combination of small group discussion and presentations we will offer support on topics such as grant writing, suitable funders, study design, how to manage and deliver a research project, involving patients and the public in your research and research leadership.

Our aim is to provide support to all those interested in a clinical or practice academic research career. We want to see you succeed in securing your own research funding, delivering your own research within the NHS or social care in Wales and ultimately improving the health and wellbeing of people in Wales through research in practice.
