Promoting carers wellbeing: current research and future directions

Research studies about carers’ wellbeing over the last decade have highlighted the impact of caregiving on informal carers’ financial, physical and mental health. In this seminar hosted by the Centre for Adult Social Care Research (CARE) at Cardiff University there is a focus on the implications for carers’ social wellbeing and present some of the latest research from the UK and Australia about the social welfare of carers. 

Presentation one: Carers of people with dementia: personal, health professional and researcher perspective.
Sladana Pavkovic is an early career researcher in the field of dementia care based in the Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre, University of Tasmania, Australia.

Presentation two: Caring Pleasure and Carers’ Leisure: exploring the importance of fun in unpaid carers’ lives.
Dan Burrows is a senior lecturer in social work at Cardiff University and has been involved in qualitative research exploring the experiences and perspectives of unpaid carers since 2020.

Presentation three: Carer harm: a challenge for practitioners, services and research.
Alisoun Milne is Emeritus Professor of Social Gerontology and Social Work at the University of Kent. Alisoun’s research interests are in four intersecting areas: social work with older people and their families; mental health in later life; family caring; and long-term care.
