The World Turned Upside Down
‘The World Turned Upside Down’ is a new innovative documentary about dementia and communication. Released in September 2022, it has so far been viewed 2,802 times, with professionals, practitioners and people living with dementia all agreeing that this is a film which needs to be seen more widely.
The original play drew on research evidence from the IDEAL programme (an Alzheimer’s Society Centre of Excellence studying how to improve the lives of people with mild-to-moderate dementia and their carers living in the community) and the real-life experience of a dedicated involvement group of people with dementia and carers. As well as the performances, the film shows the rehearsal process, audience reactions and reflections from those involved in the project.
This special free screening at Aberystwyth Arts Centre will allow the opportunity for discussion of the film’s themes. Dr Catherine Charlwood (IDEAL’s Research Translation Manager) and Professor Charles Musselwhite (Department of Psychology, Aberystwyth University, and Co-Director of the Centre for Ageing and Dementia Research CADR) will be on hand to answer questions and share research opportunities with you.
