Partnership working announced with Centre for Research Equity

27 June

Health and Care Research Wales is developing a partnership with the Centre for Research Equity as part of its wider programme to increase diversity and inclusion in research.

Led by Professor Mahendra Patel, the Centre for Research Equity (CfRE) is based in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences at Oxford University and aims to improve community engagement and inclusive research practice across the UK through collaborations with the devolved nations.

The partnership will focus on sharing good practice around community-based recruitment and trial design, providing support for health and social care research staff to increase health equity, and building the evidence base around the determinants of health inequalities.

Professor Kieran Walshe, Director of Health and Care Research Wales said: “Building partnerships and sharing ideas and expertise is the foundation of good community engagement and we look forward to working with the CfRE to support our existing work to foster greater inclusivity in the research agenda which help to address health and care disparities across Wales.”

Professor Mahendra Patel, Director of the Centre for Research Equity, said: "We are thrilled about this exciting and groundbreaking partnership with Wales to mark a significant step forward in recognising the importance of research equity as a means of improving health and care inequalities. Supporting meaningful engagement with underserved and marginalised communities across the nation can help ensure that the evidence gathered is safe and effective for the entire population, not just a select few."
