Putting care homes on the map: seven new homes join the ENRICH Cymru network

6 August

ENabling Research In Care Homes (ENRICH Cymru) is a pan-Wales research network of care homes which supports the delivery and facilitation of high-quality research across the country tackling current issues in the care home sector.

Since September 2023, the team has added seven care homes to their ever-growing group.

The homes are located across the country, including four in South Wales, two in North Wales, and one in West Wales.

Many of the new additions have already been enthusiastic about engaging in research.

Ysguborwen House, in Aberdare, took part in discussions on creating activity packs on climate changes for schools and care homes – part of the wider OPTIC project, which created a comic about climate change.

Llys Cyncoed in Cardiff, which also took part in the OPTIC project, is working with Museum Wales on the Museums Inspiring Memories project, which will take items from museums into care homes to facilitate memories and discussions with people with dementia.

Leanne Brake, Research Facilitator at ENRICH Cymru, explained why homes joined the network and said: “It’s about best practice most of the time, wanting the best for the home. It’s an opportunity to put the home on the map.”

The care homes which have been added to the network from September 2023 to June 2024 are:

  • Ysguborwen House, Aberdare
  • Dan Y Bryn (Pobl), Pontardawe
  • Bryn Awelon (Meddyg Care), Criccieth
  • Criccieth (Meddyg Care), Criccieth
  • Llys Cyncoed, Cardiff
  • Treforys, Morriston
  • Maesyfelin, Ceredigion
