Specialty Lead for Metabolic and Endocrine Disorder
Aled Rees is Professor of Endocrinology at the School of Medicine, Cardiff University. Professor Rees graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine.
He was awarded a Wellcome Trust Clinical Training Fellowship and a Society for Endocrinology Clinical Endocrinology Trust Fellowship for his PhD examining growth regulation in pituitary tumours. His group has recently confirmed a rising incidence and prevalence of PCOS in the UK and demonstrated the high health economic burden.
In partnership with Verity, and supported by the Waterloo Foundation, he is currently leading the James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership in PCOS which will seek to establish the top 10 research priorities in this disorder. He is R&D Lead for the Medicine Board at Cardiff & Vale UHB, Board member of the Androgen Excess-PCOS Society, NICE Topic Advisor for the forthcoming PCOS guideline, and General Secretary of the Society for Endocrinology.
