Biography

Matthijs Backx is a consultant in infectious diseases and medical microbiology and clinical lead for the Wales Centre for Mycobacteriology and the Regional Mycology Reference Unit, Cardiff. Matthijs is passionate about delivering equitable, high-quality services across Wales. His job plan combines laboratory and patient-facing components, allowing a unique perspective on how innovation and research can influence practice change. He is particularly interested in infection in the immunocompromised host and how personalised medicine can be used to predict risk of invasive fungal infection in this population.
