Chief Medical Officer for Wales welcomes Academy of Medical Sciences report

In response to the recently published Academy of Medical Sciences report, ‘Transforming Health through Innovation: Integrating the NHS and Academia’, Chief Medical Officer for Wales, Dr Frank Atherton said:

“We very much welcome the themes and issues raised in the report which rightly recognise the importance and value of research across health and care settings. Through Health and Care Research Wales, we are committed to building capacity and capability in research for the benefit of patients and the public.

“We are pleased to see that initiatives in Wales are noted in the report, in particular, the Health and Care Research Wales Delivery Framework and NHS Research Time scheme, both of which have played a key role in strengthening capacity and research culture.

“Health and Care Research Wales recognises the importance of supporting and encouraging staff across a range of disciplines from doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, community practitioners and health care scientists to be research active and this is clearly an important step towards the development and retention of a workforce equipped to meet the challenges of the future.”
