Have you used weight loss injections such as Wegovy or Mounjaro? Your experience could help shape research

Share your experience with using weight loss medication to shape research that will help healthcare professionals understand how the medications work in real life.

Researchers at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board are developing a project to look at the ways that people obtain weight loss medication, either by prescription or through paying for it privately. They would like to speak to people who have experience of using this type of medication to understand people’s journeys, any challenges they face and the overall costs and benefits of using it.

What experience do I need to help?

To take part in this opportunity, you don’t need any formal qualifications or research experience.

  You can get involved if:

  • You are currently using or have previously used weight loss injections like Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro.

  • You accessed the medication through the NHS or privately.

  • You are willing to share your experience and give feedback on research materials.

  • You have access to the internet (or a smartphone) and can join an online meeting.

What will I be asked to do?
  • Join a one-to-one online meeting with a researcher to talk about your experience using weight loss injections.

  • Share your personal experience of using this medication and how you accessed it, whether through the NHS or privately.

  • Review research documents, to make sure they are clear and relevant.

  • Give feedback on the study’s focus and design to ensure it reflects what matters to people like you.

  • Take part in follow-up discussions, if needed, to help refine the research proposal.

How long will I be needed for?

Total: Four to five hours over a two-month period.

  • One initial online meeting (about one hour).

  • Reviewing documents (one – two hours).

  • Optional follow-up discussions (up to two hours).

What are some of the benefits for me?
  • Contribute to research that could shape how the NHS in Wales supports people using weight loss injections.

  • Ensure patient voices are heard and help make sure the study reflects the real experiences and needs of people managing their weight with medications.

  • Flexible involvement.

  • Your input will help ensure future healthcare is fair, inclusive and focused on what matters most to patients.

 What support is offered?
  •  Cover reasonable travel expenses and additional carer or childcare costs.

  • Offer payment for time of £25.00 per hour (people can request less if they are in receipt of state benefits).

  • The project lead will provide support and information about the project and be there to answer any questions you may have.

Have a look at our guidelines for more information about this.
