Help evaluate the Discover Your Role Public Involvement Action Plan
Help us understand what’s working, and what’s not, in public involvement.
Join the programme oversight group for Discover Your Role, a national action plan aimed at improving how the public is involved in health and care research. This is your chance to help shape how we measure the impact of public involvement, ensuring that future work is meaningful, effective and valued.
Your voice will help show the difference involvement makes. The Discover Your Role Public Involvement Action Plan aims to improve how the public is involved in research by promoting quality, consistency and collaboration across the sector. As a member of the programme oversight group, you'll work alongside researchers and stakeholders to co-develop a meaningful evaluation framework. Your insights will help define what success looks like, assess what’s working well and identify areas for improvement.
- What experience do I need to help?
We’re looking for people who:
- Have an interest in improving public involvement in health and care research.
- Are happy to share their views and experiences openly and respectfully.
- Can reflect on what good involvement looks and feels like, based on personal experience - either as someone who’s been involved in research or who would like to be.
- Want to help ensure that public voices are valued, heard and used to shape future improvements.
- What will I be asked to do?
- Join regular project meetings (online or in-person) to share your views and hear updates.
- Help develop the evaluation framework – this means thinking about what success looks like for public involvement and how it could be measured.
- Review project materials such as plans, feedback tools or reports to ensure they reflect a public perspective.
- Offer feedback on what is working well, what could be improved, and whether involvement is making a real difference.
- Contribute to sense-checking and reporting so that findings are clear, relevant and accessible to others.
- How long will I be needed for?
- Meetings will be held approximately every six to eight weeks, lasting about one and a half to two hours, either online or in a hybrid format.
- Some additional time between meetings to read documents or provide feedback, which usually takes one to two hours depending on your availability.
- Flexibility to be involved for as long as suits you, whether that’s a few meetings or the full project duration.
- What are some of the benefits for me?
- You will have the chance to make a real difference by helping improve public involvement in health and care research
- You can use your experiences to influence how future research is planned and carried out
- You will learn more about how public involvement and evaluation work in practice
- You’ll gain new skills and confidence by working with researchers and other public contributors
- Flexible involvement means you can fit it around your other commitments
- You may be eligible for payment or expenses in line with national guidelines
- You’ll be part of a supportive group working towards better public involvement across Wales
- What support is offered?
- A named contact person to answer questions, keep in touch, and offer guidance throughout your involvement
- Flexible ways to take part – meetings will be held online or in a hybrid format, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your availability
- Briefings or training sessions, if needed, so you feel confident to contribute
- Payment or reimbursement in line with national guidance (for example, for your time, travel or other costs, where applicable).
