Help public involvement to become more sustainable
Are you passionate about meaningful public involvement in research?
Join Health and Care Research Wales in a unique opportunity to co-develop sustainable funding models that support real, impactful involvement - not just in theory, but in practice.
Be part of a Task and Finish group working with people from across Wales and the UK to help shape how public involvement in research is supported and integrated across the research community.
This initiative aligns with Focus Area 1 of the “Discover Your Role” programme. Participants will contribute to identifying, evaluating and shaping models that support meaningful and well-resourced public involvement, starting with the university research setting and expanding to broader implementation across Wales.
- What experience do I need to help?
No previous experience is needed, just:
- A willingness to share your views
- An interest in improving support for getting people involved in research
- Openness to work collaboratively with others
- What will I be asked to do?
- Take part in a small number of group discussions (online or in-person), where you’ll work alongside researchers, involvement leads and other public contributors.
- Share your thoughts, ideas and experiences of public involvement – especially what has helped or made it challenging in the past.
- Explore and discuss different models of funding and support for public involvement in research, particularly in university settings.
- Help develop practical recommendations for how these models could be applied across Wales.
- Optional: Contribute to reviewing or shaping written materials, such as summary reports or recommendations.
- How long will I be needed for?
- The Task and Finish group will meet once a month for 10 months.
- Each meeting will be scheduled in advance and last around one to two hours.
- What are some of the benefits for me?
- Help shape real change in how public involvement is supported and funded in Wales.
