Help shape the future of 999 emergency care
The Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust is looking for members of the public to help shape how emergency services use live video in 999 calls. The 999 RESPOND2 study is exploring how live-stream video can support better decisions during emergency dispatch, particularly when deciding whether to send specialist critical care teams.
The Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust wants to work with people who can share their thoughts, ideas and perspectives to help ensure this technology is used safely, effectively and in a way that meets the needs of patients and the public. This project aims to improve decision making during live-stream video to dispatch Enhanced and Critical Care Teams (ECCT) to those who need it the most, to improve patient outcomes and to increase ambulance service efficiency.
- What experience do I need to help?
- You don’t need any specific qualifications or medical knowledge to take part. The team are looking for people with an interest in emergency care or experience of calling 999 or using live-stream video as part of a 999 call either for yourself or someone else.
- The research team welcomes diverse perspectives and would particularly like to hear from people who may have faced barriers to care or who are under-served in research. Your views and lived experience will help researchers understand how video in 999 calls could impact patients, families and the wider public.
- What will I be asked to do?
You’ll be invited to take part in four online study steering committee meetings to share your views on how live-stream video is used during 999 calls. This may include:

- Helping researchers design guidance and training for ambulance services
- Reviewing materials we create for public and professional use
