Are you interested in making Wales a place where healthy lives come first?

Did you know that people living in more deprived areas of Wales are living five to eight years less than those in wealthier areas?

There are many reasons for this — including things like housing, income, and access to quality healthcare. But another important factor is often overlooked: big companies that make and promote unhealthy products, like fast food, alcohol, and tobacco.

Public Health Wales is looking at how governments, the NHS, and communities can work together to support healthier choices for people, and how to encourage big companies to change the way they operate — like making their products less harmful or advertising more responsibly.

What experience do I need to help?

You doing need any specialist knowledge or experience to take part.

You don’t need any previous experience to take part, but it would be helpful if:

  • You have lived or worked in a community affected by health inequalities
  • You can give honest, thoughtful feedback
  • You have an interest in health, fairness, or improving people's lives

The only requirement is that you don’t have personal or professional ties to industries like tobacco, alcohol, or fast food.

What will I be asked to do?
  • You’ll be invited to attend two online meetings (around one hour each), with about an hour of preparation beforehand
  • You’ll be asked to review and comment on draft survey questions and give feedback on how they are phrased and understood.
  • These meetings will be informal but guided, giving you a safe space to share your thoughts and ideas.
How long will I be needed for?
  • If you take part, you’ll join two one-hour meetings over three months, with about an hour of preparation for each. Your involvement will be flexible, fully supported, and your time and insight will be greatly valued.
