PRIME Centre Wales works to improve health and social care services in Wales by bringing together researchers, healthcare professionals, patients, and the public. The PRIME Centre Wales makes sure that research is meaningful and relevant by involving patients and the public at every stage. 

As the Public Partner Co-Lead, you’ll help guide the work of PRIME Centre Wales, ensuring that the voices and needs of patients and the public are included in research. You’ll promote clear communication, fairness, and involvement, and help shape the PRIME Centre Wales’s strategy and decisions. 

What experience do I need to help?
  • An academic background is not required, but previous experience in leading a board or chairing a committee is preferred.
  • This role is particularly suited to individuals with an interest in and experience with patient and public involvement (PPI) in research and development, especially in prehospital and emergency care and primary care research.
  • Experience using or caring for someone using healthcare services (lived experience).
  • Membership in community networks and/or groups supporting a medical condition is beneficial.

Recruitment Process:

  • This position is only open to people living in Wales

What will I be asked to do?

Key activities include:

  • Supporting the PRIME Centre Wales management board
  • Attend meetings with the director and co-directors to provide the public perspective and serve as a sounding board for key decisions
  • Assist in the Recruitment of members and chair the new PRIME Strategic PPI Group

Outward-facing role what do you mean by support, is it to attend, or help set up?

  • Attend and/or help organise meetings with external agencies in their specific areas of PRIME Centre Wales.
  • Attend and/or help organise meetings with external agencies in their specific areas of PRIME activity e.g. Health and Care Research Wales and the National Institute of Health and Social Care Research (NIHR)
  • Assist in the delivery of PRIME Centre Wales research events/workshops, including tasks like judging awards and chairing sessions

Governance:

  • Sit on interview panels
  • Contribute to discussions with PRIME Centre Wales’s research team
  • Participate in research ethics-related roles and responsibilities
How long will I be needed for?

Term/Time Contribution:

  • The term is for two years; maximum of two terms, with a formal review at PRIME Operational Group meetings to confirm the position
  • Estimated time commitment: three to four hours per month

How many meetings are required?

  • There will be 20 monthly meetings per year (over the two years), for between one and two hours with 30 minutes document reviewing time for each meeting.

What support is offered?
  • Cover of reasonable travel expenses and additional carer or childcare costs,
  • Offer payment for time of £25.00 per hour, this will cover time spent preparing for meetings, attending meetings and contributing to events (people can request less if they are in receipt of state benefits).
