Biography
Stephen is a registered mental health nurse with clinical experience in psychiatric intensive care for men, women and adolescents and specialist inpatient services for under-12s. He considers himself a Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services (CAMHs) nurse first and foremost.
He has taught at two Welsh Higher Education Institutes, is a member of the All-Wales Senior Nursing Advisory Group and, between October 2023 and September 2024, was seconded on a part-time basis to the Chief Nurses’ Office.
Prior to his doctorate he presented original theoretical work at multiple conferences related to mental health nursing research, published in field-specific peer-review journals and, most meaningfully for him, contributed individual and collaborative work for Asylum Magazine.
Before his nurse training he worked in patient-facing support roles for nursing services at the National Hospital for Neurology, undertook the introductory leadership module of the NHS Staff College and completed postgraduate study in European Culture and Thought at University College London.
