Biography
Dr Jonathan Phillips leads the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) physics group, based in Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB). He took on the role in April 2020, after joining Swansea University Medical School in 2012. The MRI physics team provides clinical scientific support to several organisations in Wales. As a clinical academic, Jon is passionate about research, quality improvement and innovation in clinical MRI.
Jon is a registered clinical scientist, a higher specialist scientist and is an accredited MR Safety Expert (MRSE). He provides highly-specialised training to NHS Wales Trainee Clinical Scientists in MRI as part of the scientific training programme (STP), to radiographers and to radiologists (FRCR) through the Imaging Academy. Jon also leads on several university modules.
Quantitative imaging drives Jon’s research interests and his main research interests are currently non-Gaussian diffusion-weighted imaging and whole-body imaging. Jon is a Welsh Crucible alumnus and welcomes interdisciplinary collaboration.
