Translational Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) research

Translational Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) research is the cornerstone of innovation in MRI physics which has the potential to improve diagnostic and treatment outcomes, quality and safety for patients.

All of the activities I describe below will be fully dependent on the NHS Research Time Award funding.

It will provide me with the critical time that I need to:

  • network with my supervisors and collaborators,
  • establish new research links in NHS Wales,
  • develop the specific hypotheses needed,
  • design and deliver small-scale studies related to each topic (including reproducibility assessment) and
  • apply for further significant funding with collaborators.

I have dedicated time on the Swansea University MRI scanner which can be used for research. Research areas are as follows: Improving Diagnostic Accuracy by the Use of Diffusion Kurtosis Imaging (DKI); Colorectal Cancer; Head and Neck Cancers; Whole-Body DKI; Establishing the Possibility of Using DKI in Radiotherapy Pathways
