Award time to work with local trials units and the research team to develop the protocols

End of project summary

Main Messages

Academic research is an area that has not traditionally been the purview of surgeons or women. The clinical research time award has made a substantial difference to my ability to support and develop my own personal research interests as well as collaborate and recruit with others in theirs. During the three years of the award, I have been involved in successful grant applications worth more than £2 million, been the chief investigator in four portfolio studies, had 18 publications, co-supervised four research fellows in PhD or MDs and been invited to give 15 international and national talks.

I intend to use this opportunity to continue to develop my research further in the future as well as use my skills and knowledge to develop research within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and within colorectal surgery in the UK.
