Dr Nicola Savory

Health and Care Research Wales Faculty award:

Award: Personal Award Accelerator

Biography

Nicola Savory is an experienced clinical midwife and an early career researcher. She has been awarded a Personal Accelerator Award to develop and apply for funding to lead on a maternity study exploring the long term outcomes and experiences of induction of labour.

Nicola's research experience so far has involved working in a research support and delivery post in the maternity unit setting-up and coordination of studies. She was then awarded funding from Research Capacity Building Collaboration Wales (RCBC Wales) to undertake a full time PhD at Cardiff University which she completed in 2020. This multiple methods design study used surveys, interviews and focus groups to explore the experiences of women with mild to moderate perinatal mental health problems and the midwives who support them. Following this Nicola worked as a research associate, coordinating three Welsh sites, in a UK-wide Randomised controlled trial of peer support for infant feeding. Alongside this she has continued in my clinical role.
