Dr Martin Scurr
Health and Care Research Wales Faculty award:
Award: Health and Care Research Wales Advanced Fellowship award (2024 - 2029)
Project title: Enhanced immunological assessment of influenza vaccine efficacy in immunocompromised patients
Biography
Dr Martin Scurr’s research investigates novel ways to measure particular cells of the immune system called ‘T cells’. His Health and Care Research Wales Advanced Fellowship project will seek to create a simple blood test that identifies pre-existing and/or vaccine-induced T cell responses to seasonal influenza. By defining immunological correlates of protection from severe influenza infection, the project aims to identify immunocompromised patients most at-risk from severe disease.
In addition, this project will allow public health bodies to make more informed policy decisions and vaccine manufacturers to better assess immunogenicity of next-generation seasonal influenza vaccines.
