Good Research Practice (GCP for non-drug studies)

Course outline: 

The aim of this course is to provide delegates with an understanding of all aspects of good research practice and legislative requirements in health and social care research for non-drug studies.

Course details: 

This course is specifically designed for non-drug studies only (non-CTIMPs) and includes all research conducted within health and social care settings in Wales. The course is built around practical group activities and work-based scenarios, using real-life examples to make the content relevant. It will include looking at policies and legislation requirements for conducting research with humans.

This half day course will describe all requirements including: 

  • Research standards and legislation
  • Delegation and study teams
  • Eligibility and valid informed consent
  • Managing study records and data
  • Participant safety and wellbeing
  • Study closure

The format of the course will include presentations, interactive sessions and discussions.

The all-Wales Good Research Practice training is an alternative, proportionate, training option for those staff working on non-drug studies who do not need full GCP, as detailed in the HRA/MHRA joint statement. Always check your sponsor and local training requirements for your study.

Following the training, participants will:

  • Understand what research governance is and the regulations that apply to their research
  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of individuals and organisations in research
  • Understand the process, roles and responsibilities of receiving informed consent
  • Demonstrate accuracy in data entry and study closure
  • Discuss correct participant safety considerations and requirements
