Professor Gill Windle

Senior Research Leader

Gill Windle (BSc; MSc; PhD) is a gerontologist who specialises in interdisciplinary research. She is the Director of the Dementia Services Development Centre Wales (DSDC Wales) and Director of Research Impact and Engagement for the School of Health Sciences at Bangor University. 

Gill’s research aims to improve the health, wellbeing and resilience of older people, people with dementia and their supporters, and improve care and service provision. 

Her achievements include: 

  • Prestigious grant capture mainly from UK research councils (MRC; ESRC; AHRC) the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and Health and Care Research Wales, along with funding from the Wellcome Trust and Alzheimer’s Society, with a total value of £22.4m.
  • Membership and contributions as a member of regional and national (Welsh Government) strategy groups for national dementia policy development.
  • Membership and contributions to World Health Organisation groups and networks on ageing and dementia.
  • In recognition of her work she was awarded a personal chair by Bangor University in 2018.
