
Professor Reyer Zwiggelaar
Senior Research Leader
Professor Zwiggelaar has almost 30 years research experience at the infer-face between computer science and health data, especially concentrating on computer aided diagnosis.
Professor Zwiggelaar has published 300+ full papers. This is a mix of journal and high quality conference contributions. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Journal of Biomedical and Health Informatics (formerly IEEE Transactions on Information Technology in BioMedicine) and Pattern Recognition.
Professor Zwiggelaar has seen 25 PhD students to completion and is currently supervising five PhD students (with a further three awaiting their viva). He has been external examiner for 30 PhD students.
Professor Zwiggelaar received Health and Care Research Wales funding for the Medical Image Analysis and Visualisation Group ISG (from then WORD/WAG) and for the Advanced Medical Image Analysis and Visualization Unit BRU (from then NISCHR),
which he sees as the foundation of some of the subsequent UKRI funding that he has been awarded. Current UKRI funding includes AIMLAC (https://cdt-aimlac.org/) and AIBIO (https://aibio.ac.uk/).
Professor Zwiggelaar is currently the Deputy Chair for the Health and Care Research Wales Translational and Clinical Funding Board, and a funding board member for a range of other Health and Care Research Wales funding streams. In addition, he reviews and is panel member for UKRI and a range of international funding bodies.
