Working together for better brain health

The collaborative event between the National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH) and the Brain Repair and Intracranial Neurotherapeutics (BRAIN) unit will bring together researchers and patient and public involvement (PPI) members from advisory groups based in the Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences at Cardiff University.

The event will be an opportunity for PPI group members to network and hear from researchers about the impact their lived experienced voices have in brain health research. There’ll also be chance to take part in fun brain-related games and art activities.

The event is open to the public, not just health professionals and people with an interest in brain health research.

What is PPI?
Patient and public involvement (PPI) is an active partnership between members of the public and researchers in the research process. Active involvement from members of the public leads to research that is more relevant, more reliable, and more likely to be used to improve health and social care services. Members of PPI groups are involved in every stage of a research project and inform decisions by sharing their lived experiences.

About NCMH and BRAIN
The National Centre for Mental Health brings together world-leading researchers from Cardiff, Swansea and Bangor Universities to learn more about the triggers and causes of mental health problems.

Their aim is to help improve diagnosis, treatment and support for the millions of people affected by mental ill-health every year, as well as reduce the stigma faced by many. Key to achieving these aims is engaging with services and their users, the third sector and the wider public to increase understanding of mental illness, and by undertaking mental health research.

The Brain Repair and Intracranial Neurotherapeutics (BRAIN) unit develops and delivers innovative therapies for neurological and neurodegenerative diseases through collaboration. The unit’s research focuses on four main conditions: Huntington’s disease, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease.

This conference is being run by the National Centre for Mental Health, if you have any questions, please contact the event team.
