Ease-P study: Can self-help videos treat heel pain?

26 October

The podiatry team at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is running a new study to help people who experience heel pain.

This early stage feasibility study will allow a small group of patients to try out and provide feedback on self-help videos while they are waiting for a podiatry appointment.

Kerry Nyland, Research Officer at the University Hospital of Wales, who is running this study said: "We're excited to be doing this research into supporting patients with Plantar Fasciitis, the most common cause of heel pain. For some patients the pain severely impacts their day-to-day lives. This research will allow us to find out if the videos we have made are helpful and if they can be used as part of an early intervention to aid quicker recovery.

"It’s been a fantastic opportunity for me to work with the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board podiatry team. They are a committed team working hard to maximise patient access to high quality care through participation in research.”

This study is supported by a fellowship grant funded by Research Capacity Building Collaboration Wales (RCBC Wales) through Health and Care Research Wales.

Who can take part in this research?

Patients who are newly joining the podiatry waiting list for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board will be invited to take part in this study, which is taking place at the University Hospital of Wales.
